Harvest Season Begins: A Journey Through Sumatra's Vanilla Fields
June marks a milestone moment in our vanilla journey – the first precious beans of the season have reached perfect maturity. After months of patient waiting, the vanilla pods that were hand-pollinated by our dedicated farmers last September and October are finally ready for harvest.
Visiting the Fields with Our Farmers
Last week, I had the privilege of visiting several of our partner farms, and I couldn't contain my excitement seeing rows of beautiful, mature vanilla beans hanging from the vines. There's a special art to knowing when a vanilla bean has reached its peak – the telltale signs are subtle but unmistakable. The tip begins to show that characteristic yellowing, while the entire pod transforms from its vibrant green to a softer, pale green hue. If the beans are still gleaming with that shiny, bright green color, they need just a little more time under the vine before reaching maturity.

While June brings us these early treasures, the heart of our harvest season unfolds in July and August. Our curing center is already buzzing with preparation, ready to transform these green gems into the premium vanilla beans that add plenty of flavour to your creations.
More Than Business – Building Relationships
At Maison Vanilla, we believe that exceptional vanilla begins with exceptional relationships. My recent visit to the North Tapanuli region of Sumatra perfectly embodied this philosophy. Sharing lunch with 15 of our farmer partners wasn't just about business – it was about community, knowledge sharing, and mutual growth.
In the middle of a vanilla farm, we spoke about sustainable farming practices, discussed the current vanilla market landscape, and brainstormed innovative ways to increase yield without compromising quality. These conversations are the foundation of what makes our vanilla truly special – it's not just about the beans, it's about the hands that nurture them and the relationships that ensure every pod meets a good quality and ensuring our farmers are paid fairly for their amount of work.
The Maison Vanilla Difference
What sets our vanilla apart isn't just the pristine growing conditions of Sumatra or the careful hand-pollination process – it's our complete control over every step from farm to your kitchen. While many vanilla suppliers rely on middlemen and uncertain processing methods, we maintain direct relationships with our farmers and cure every single bean in our own facility.

This farm-to-consumer approach means we can guarantee:
-
Traceability: Every bean can be traced back to the specific farm and harvest date
-
Quality Control: Our in-house curing process ensures consistent, premium results
-
Freshness: No lengthy supply chains or unknown storage conditions
-
Fair Partnerships: Direct relationships mean better prices for farmers and better beans for you
